I must admit, I am not a financial expert but it seems the stories, or rumours, are gathering a little pace that Rangers could be under new ownership in the near future. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the Scottish newspapers have been covered with speculation on the clubs future from Walter Smiths future to the tax investigation by HMRC.This season, Walter Smith has worked wonders for Rangers and has secured a record 53rd League Championship without signing a player in two years. That run without opening the cheque book could be set to continue as season-ticket and Champions League income could be used for financial security rather than investing in the first-team. Smith, who was 62 in February, is unsure whether he will continue as Rangers manager after an epic double-winning season. He has stated he will confirm his future in the next few days after meetings with club chairman Alistair Johnston, who has flown in from the USA for these talks.Major shareholder Sir David Murray has been rocked by the news that he has lost almost 350m during the rece sion and has drove the club into mediocrity. Quite simply the sooner Murray goes, then things might look up for the club but its not as simple as that according to The Herald. From their a se sment, they have revealed that the clubs 30m debt could double due to a tax investigation from HMRC which stems from the way Erik Karlsson Jersey club paid their high-profile stars over the past decade.Property Developer Andrew Ellis is still looking at the books and has been for the last month. Ellis has been leading the way in the chase to secure the keys to Ibrox since March and has previous experience, not succe sfully, of owning a football club through stints at Northampton Town and Queens Park Rangers. Reports have been suggesting Ellis has been planning re-generation of the Ibrox area which is sadly lacking in investment as the focus has been on the opposite end of the city ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Initially, doubts were raised over whether Ellis would have the clubs best interests at heart but it seems now the majority want him to take over. Personally, I am quite happy for him to takeover if he has the financial backing and a long-term plan. Fair enough, the guy is a busine sman and will be out to make himself a few quid, I completely understand that. Hopefully, he will re-generate the surrounding areas of Ibrox aswell as stabilising the clubs rising debt, the money he makes, hopefully, will be invested in the side.At the end of the day, stability is what is needed.Behind Ellis, is both the RST and club director Dave King. My previous article on Supporter Ownership was at the height of when the RST were eyeing up an ambitious move to takeover with the backing of an investor. At the moment, there hasnt been any development from their point of view as progre s has been halted since Jim McColl stepped away from potential investment. Club director Davie King is still reportedly interested in buying the club. For the record, I want King nowhere near Ibrox. He is currently under tax investigations from the South African Government and that is the last thing the club needs at the moment.In the next few days, I hope we will hear more as it is now becoming very worrying. In the midst of Championship glory, its time to face reality: Rangers are a ship currently sinking by the hour, by the day, by the month and until Sir David Murray is removed from his position at Ibrox and new investment and ideas are brought to the club we will continue working with our hands tied.
